On October 17, the 3rd United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development formally took place in Quito, capital of Ecuador. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, attended the conference and made a speech. Chen Zhenggao, Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, attended the conference leading the delegation as the Chinese government special representative. The exhibition house of CTIEC in the conference room became the focus of the conference. Joan Clos, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, highly praised the new type house solution of CTIEC after visiting the exhibition room, and wished the vigorous global promotion in the future would help handle the problem of global house problems.
In the process of the conference, representatives including Rafael Correa, President of Ecuador, Rosalia Arteaga, Former President of Ecuador, Freddy Ehlers, Minister of Happy Life, Sadat Mansoor, Minister of Urban Development and Housing, together with mayors from cities in the world visited the exhibition house of CTIEC one after another. The national channel of Ecuador and UN Radio had an exclusive interview report of the exhibition house.
Meanwhile, CTIEC signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Ecuador National Housing Company and Barcelona Housing Company on the support of the post-earthquake reconstruction of Ecuador and mutual development and construction of green towns.Rosalia Arteaga attended the signing ceremony. Wang Congxiao, Vice President of CTIEC, Montserat Benedito, General Manager of Ecuador National Housing Company, and Cesar Martinell, CEO of Barcelona Housing Company signed the memorandum on behalf of the three sides separately.
As the only global summit concerning the topic of city and habitat environment in the times of rapid urbanization, United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development is held every 20 years. An unprecedented total number of 450,000 people attended the conference including politicians from over 40 countries and government agencies, international organizations and academic groups from over 100 countries and sections. The conference formally reached the milestone file — “New Urban Agenda”.
